Monteverro 2010, Wine Spectator
Marked by vanilla and other spices, this big, flamboyant red shows sweet black cherry, black currant, spice and mineral flavors. The rich texture and sweet fruit offset the beefy tannins. Fine length. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2015 through 2023. 1,225 cases made. –BS
Monteverro 2010, Falstaff
Funkelndes, sattes Rubin mit leichtem Violett. Betörend klare und intensive Nase, zeigt zunächst erdige Noten, nach Tabak und Roten Rüben, dann Heidelbeeren und Cassis, im Hintergrund etwas Rosmarin. Zeigt am Gaumen viel satten Druck, viel reife Frucht, öffnet sich mit feinkörnigem Tannin und viel süßem Schmelz, im Finale balsamische Noten, langer Nachhall, strömt ruhig und lange dahin.

Minerals, spearmint, currants and berries on nose. Full-bodied and chewy with chocolate. Cashmere texture. Needs another three to four years of bottle age.

Ein schon fast trinkfertiges Mörderteil, das auf den grossen 2008er noch mal deutlich eins drauflegte. Ein Traum schon diese unglaubliche Nase mit reifer, süchtig machender, aber nicht überladener Frucht und schöner Mineralität, am Gaumen komplex, dicht mit sehr reifen Tanninen und guter Säure, sehr nachhaltig mit grossartiger Länge, dabei mit betörender, seidiger Eleganz. Hedonismus in seiner schönsten Form. (…) Dieser Monteverro ist ein süchtig machender, grosser Wein locker auf 98/100 Niveau. (…) Und hiermit lehne ich mich jetzt noch mal weit aus dem Fenster. An enchanting synthesis of power and cashmere-like elegance.

There’s a bright cherry flavor front and center in this intense, fruit-filled red. Dense and structured, with impeccable balance and supporting roles from herb and spice notes. The fruit- and spice-filled finish is terrific. Best from 2015 through 2023. 2,750 cases made.

14% alc. Cab Sauv, Cab Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot. After the bottle is open and a glass is filled, the aromas go through a fascinating transformation in the first few minutes. Pronounced woody notes, revealing top quality wood used for maturing, give way to intense mineral, crushed stone sensations, which in turn are substituted by perfumed juicy raspberry notes. The nose finally settles on generous, yet elegant bouquet of fresh ripe red and black fruit with vigorous spicy overtones and Mediterranean herbs. The palate is effortlessly balanced between freshness and generosity of flavours, and remains easy to drink despite 14% of alcohol. Cabernets’ square structure feels softened thanks to long velvety tannins, filled with rich black and red fruit stuffing. Nice volume in mid-palate and staying, spicy finish with mineral nuances round off the wine. While enjoyable now, needs more time for tannins to marry the fruit. Empty glass has an inviting smell of ripe raspberries and strawberries. The ‘second vin’ of Monteverro, but many other Supertuscans will pale in comparison.
